Elections in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala.

Tomorrow wednesday 13th of April is a very important day in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala, part of the South India states.
It's Elections Day.

This happens every five years, and they elect the State assembly.

Data is as follows:

Tamil Nadu

In the State assembly there are 234 seats, and the one that get 120 seats has the majority and can rule the state. If during these five years they loose any seat, they can loose the majority.
In total over 2000 candidates, over 54000 polling stations and over 45 million people have rights to vote, but only around 65% of them are going to vote.

Kerala

In the State assembly there are 140 seats.
In total nearly 1000 candidates, over 20000 polling stations and over 23 million people have rights to vote, but only around 85% of them are going to vote.

Pondicherry

In the State assembly there are 30 seats.
In total nearly 200 candidates, over 800 polling stations and over 8 million people have rights to vote, but only around 65% of them are going to vote.

These big numbers require lot of police in the polling stations, and lot of controls in the area. Is very difficult to imagine here in Barcelona how crowded is this process, just taking into account that Catalunya has about 7 million population only!!!

All the people is going to vote from eight o'clock in the morning until five o'clock in the afternoon. They are voting using an electronic machine: they just need to look for the candidate and select him. After one month they announce who are the winners!!!

The politic party that wins the elections is going to rule the state for next five years, and there is no limit of years to be the main politic party.

Who is going to win???
Tomorrow we will explain more stories about the elections in South India....
